Connect an ATA in bridged mode (SPA 3102)

In the bridged mode, the ATA is not able to provide the QOS (garantee bandwith for a telephone call).
See the explanation for more details.

Installation

First plug the power adaptor cable into the black Power port on the rear of the ATA. Now plug the Power adaptor into a spare power point.

Now look at your existing network setup, disconnect the ADSL modem/router end of the existing Ethernet cable that currently connects your PC to your ADSL modem/router.

Now plug this end of the existing Ethernet cable into the yellow Ethernet port on the rear of the ATA.

Your network setup should currently look like this:

Now using the Ethernet cable supplied with the ATA connect one end of the Ethernet cable into the blue Internet port on the rear of the ATA and the other end into the Ethernet port of your ADSL modem/router.

Your network setup should currently look like this:

You’ve now successfully connected your ATA to your existing network.

Connecting the Linksys 3102 ATA to your telephone

Now that you’ve connected your ATA to your existing network, you will now need to connect your existing analogue phone handset to the ATA.

To do this un-plug the phone handset end of your existing phone cable and leave this unplugged for the moment.

Using the included phone cable, plug one end into the analogue phone handset and the other end into the green Phone port on the rear of the ATA.

Note: Do not connect the existing phone cable to the green Line port yet.

Your network and phone setup should currently look like this:

Pick-up the Analogue phone handset connected to the ATA you should now hear a constant beeping/engaged sound.

On the dial pad dial **** You should now hear that you've entered the Linksys Configuration menu.

On the dial pad dial 110# You will now hear the IP address of the ATA, note this down. (e.g. 192.168.1.10).

After hearing this IP address you will be returned to the main voice menu. Now that you've noted down the IP address, we will need to enable access to the web-interface on this IP so we can configure the ATA.

To do this dial: 7932# and then Then 1# to confirm. Then 1 to save this setting

You will now hear confirmation that this setting is saved and you can hang-up the phone handset.

Before continuing on to configure your Linksys 3102 ATA there is one final step required to connect your Linksys 3102 ATA to your existing P.S.T.N. (Public Switched Telephone Network) line.

With the existing phone cable that originally connected your analogue phone to your phone wall socket, plug the unused end into the green Line port on the rear of the ATA. This will enable your analogue phone to still receive calls sent to the PSTN line and also fail-over to the PSTN network if you experienced any issues with your VoIP connection.

Your configuration might look something like this (it is better to make a direct connection from SPA to PC in the configuration phase):

spa3000_network_config

It’s now time to configure your ATA to connect to the Netspace VOIP network.

Configuring the Linksys 3102 ATA for your existing network

To access the Linksys 3102 open your favourite browser software (e.g. Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Safari). In this example we will use Internet Explorer.

In the address bar type in the IP address you previously noted down and press the enter key on your keyboard.

You should now be presented with the Linksys 3102 ATA configuration web-interface. In the top-right corner click Admin Login.

If not, then:

  • you are not on the same network (do the ping test )
  • your firewall is preventing the connection

The page should now automatically refresh and display a few details that were not shown previously. Now click Advanced located in the right-hand corner.

Once again the page will change a few details

From the web-interface click the sub-menu item Lan Setup.

In Lan Setup change the following option:

Networking Service — Bridge

Once you've ensured this option is set to Bridge click the Submit All Changes button located at the bottom of the page.

You will now see a page confirming your changes, however after a few seconds you may receive your browsers default error page while this change takes effect.

Wait 30 seconds and manually refresh the page to return to the web-interface.

Please proceed to manual configuration.
