Sipdroid is a VOIP client for Android to call via the Internet using a SIP (eg Free provides in its offer).
It is important to know that the SIP calls are generally prohibited by the 2G/3G operators. To do so is limited sipdroid on the Market in wifi. Android is open, you can still install your own application directly from the website, which does not block calls in 2G/3G.
After a few tests using my free identifiers (calls fail), I decided to follow the method on their website where they pass through intermediate server pbxes.org free. And following their tutorial included in the FAQ ...it works:)
Here is a step by step tutorial in french using the SIP free (must be activated in the interface free). According to the FAQ, the advantages of using SIP intermediary in pbxes are (already works!) To have better call quality and avoid problems with battery (apparently be connected directly to SIP consumes much ).
1) Download sipdroid
Either by the market (limited to wifi) or on their website.
It is a kind of a login account. Left menu = Extensions> Add Extension => SIP Number of extension: a single figure, eg 1 Display name: your name or other password: create a new password here if not used will be that your account pbxes. It is ok => Submit! After each step, click on the red banner at the top to apply the changes. In the menu on the left => Extensions you have your new profile name", Click it. In case the dial is your username, please note carefully!(just what is written after the "SIP /") Your password should also be writing a few lines above.Also note!(yes it is displayed unencrypted)
4) Pbxes: Create a Trunk
Here you configure the SIP, for example my Free. Trunks left menu => Add Trunk => Add SIP Trunk Trunk Name: "Free" or other name username: Your phone number in 09 free password: your SIP password free SIP server: freephonie.net It is ok => Submit changes!
5) Test call
From there we can configure our Android phone and make a test call. Sipdroid start => menu => Settings Username: set the login in step 3 (after the "SIP /") Password: save password in step 3 or if you have not made the connection to your pbxes Server: leave "pbxes.org" Click "Use WLAN" or "Use 3G to start the connection process. A led on the top left of the screen should light up in yellow and green => successful connection:) If the problem check your Wifi is turned on and / or 3G active. Return to the main screen sipdroid, enter the number * 43 (test call) and menu => Dialing You will hear a voice saying in English that is a test and then you can talk and if the connection is successful then you hear your voice. To end the call: menu => Finish the call (the red button does not complete the call, it just lock your screen!)
We will configure a route for making calls from your phone. Left menu routing out => Add a route Name of the road: "free" or other Sequence trunks: choose from the list the trunk previously created and click Add It is ok => Submit changes!
7) Test call for real!
You can now use sipdroid to call a phone number for any call.
8) What next?
It should be possible to call on the phone, why you need to set up incoming calls in the interface and create a free routing number in pbxes.
To call from his address book, click on the contact page and select "Send SMS" and "over IP Call".
To disable / off sipdroid, you must uncheck the interfaces WLAN/3G/EDGE in parameters.
My tests are perfect Wifi, 3G quality is not bad with some crackling sometimes 2G continuous crackling.
